7 Days to Die

Has it aged?Why ↓

7 Days to Die is a first-person zombie survival sandbox where you scavenge a ruined world, craft weapons and fortify a home against the weekly blood moon horde. You play a survivor, alone or with friends, and the best reason to search another abandoned hospital is knowing your barricades won't defend themselves.

7 Days to Die is an open-world game that is a unique combination of first-person shooter, survival horror, tower defense, and role-playing games. Play the definitive zombie survival sandbox RPG that came first. Navezgane awaits!

Play it if you want building a fortress and defending it to be equally important. Stockpiling ammunition and reinforcing walls give the blood moon something ordinary zombie shooting lacks: a test of your own preparation. The 2024 version 1.0 release preserves that appeal, but its scattered tutorials and tangled crafting recipes still make learning harder than it should be.

Play it if

You enjoy converting a farmhouse into a defensible base, stockpiling ammunition with friends and testing whether your barricades survive a siege. You also like adjusting zombie speed, XP gain and damage to walls until a survival game demands exactly the preparation you enjoy.

Skip it if

You want a permanent home that enemies cannot demolish, or you refuse to spend scavenging trips managing hunger and thirst. If learning recipes such as bones into glue into duct tape sounds intolerable, the crafting will stop you before the fortress-building pays off.

Does the blood moon have to happen every seven days?
No: the difficulty settings let you change it to every 14 days. The horde attacks from dusk until dawn, so the extra preparation time does not remove the need for ammunition and barricades.
Does dying mean losing my entire survivor?
Not under the default rules: you can respawn at your last camp or near where you died, with an XP penalty that has a lower limit. Permadeath is a separate option.
Is the old console edition the same as version 1.0?
No: the 2024 version 1.0 release is a separate console edition, and the legacy console version was not being upgraded to it. Choose the 1.0 edition rather than the legacy release; existing saves were incompatible with the 2024 transition.
Did Behaviour's acquisition mean The Fun Pimps stopped developing 7 Days to Die?
No: in the 2026 acquisition announcement, The Fun Pimps said it would continue leading development with Behaviour's support.
