Has it aged?Why ↓
Homefront: The Revolution is a first-person, open-world shooter set in an alternate Philadelphia under North Korean occupation. You play a new resistance recruit, capturing bases, sabotaging propaganda and stirring civilians into revolt. The pleasure is finding a rooftop route past the patrols; the resistance you're helping is much harder to like.
Homefront®: The Revolution is an open-world first person shooter where you must lead the Resistance movement in guerrilla warfare against a superior military force.

The verdict
Play it for the infiltration and transforming weapons, not the revolution it wants you to cheer. Philadelphia's makeshift walkways turn reaching an outpost into something more satisfying than clearing another map icon, and rebuilding a gun in your hands gives improvisation a wonderfully physical form. But Dana's enthusiasm for torture and the resistance's treatment of civilian collaborators make the campaign's supposed liberators a reason to skip dialogue rather than listen.
Play it if
You scout an outpost for an entrance above street level, enjoy sabotaging equipment without starting a firefight, and want to turn your assault rifle into a mine launcher when the plan falls apart.
Skip it if
You need to respect the people your character fights alongside. Repeated derogatory language for North Koreans, torture-loving allies and violence against civilian collaborators aren't incidental background details; they're part of the campaign.
Common questions
- What does filling the Hearts and Minds meter actually do?
- In yellow zones, rescuing civilians and sabotaging occupation infrastructure builds support for the resistance. At 100%, civilians rise up and the streets change from tense occupation to open revolt.
- Do I have to choose between a rifle and its converted versions?
- You can rebuild weapons on the fly once you've unlocked their conversions: an assault rifle can become an LMG or a limpet mine launcher. You carry two main weapons and a sidearm, with conversions expanding what that loadout can do.
- Can I play the Philadelphia campaign with friends?
- No: the campaign is separate from Resistance mode, which offers missions for up to four players online. There is no player-versus-player mode.
- Did patches repair Homefront: The Revolution's troubled launch?
- The 2016 performance patches addressed frame-rate problems and bugs. A February 2017 announcement also promised PS4 Pro support and HDR enhancements for March 2017, but that announcement alone doesn't establish that every launch problem was fixed.
