Has it aged?Why ↓
A Bird Story is a wordless, pixel-art narrative game where you guide a boy who befriends an injured bird through school, parks and dreamlike journeys. The friendship is a promising subject; making you wait for the next tiny input is a poor way to tell it.
An experimental short from the creator of To the Moon & Finding Paradise: A simple & surreal 1-hour interactive animation about a boy and an injured bird, told without dialogues. If you're looking for To the Moon-like experience, I'd suggest playing Finding Paradise first.

The verdict
Skip it: the sparse interaction makes you an attendant to the animation rather than a participant in the boy's adventure. Riding a giant paper aeroplane should be a moment of discovery, not an instruction to hold right past occupied nests. The shifting scenery has imagination, but the boy and bird need more than wistful music and enforced waiting to earn your attachment.
Play it if
You enjoy small animated stories about children and animals, and find bedrooms appearing in parks or corridors becoming forests intriguing without needing those transformations explained.
Skip it if
You need meaningful control over what happens. Long sequences run without input, and even steering the boy's umbrella descent barely affects anything.
Common questions
- How does A Bird Story connect to To the Moon?
- It is a separate story, not a direct sequel. The boy is intended to grow up into a patient of Dr. Watts and Dr. Rosalene in the continuation teased as Finding Paradise.
- Does the boy ever speak?
- No. The story has no dialogue; it communicates through animation, music and scenes that blend ordinary places with imagined ones.
- How long is the boy's adventure?
- Roughly one to two hours. Expect much of that time to be spent watching rather than controlling him.
