DuckTales: Remastered
2013 · Capcom
Has it aged?Why ↓
DuckTales: Remastered is a 2D platformer about Scrooge McDuck hunting treasure through places such as the Amazon and the Moon. You bounce on his cane to squash enemies, cross hazards and reach gems. That springy little move is the reason to play; the conversations keep getting in its way.
DuckTales: Remastered is a beautiful hand-crafted reimagining of one of the most cherished 8-bit titles of all time. Go back to one of the golden ages of gaming, now refined with a level of detail that will please the most hardened devoted Disney or retro Capcom fan alike.

The verdict
Play it for the cane-bouncing, not for a seamless cartoon adventure. The 2013 remaster's artwork makes Scrooge look the part, but enemies reappear when you move off screen, and exhausting your lives means restarting the level. The pogo jump still earns its place; the repeated explanations and interrupted platforming make this a less convincing introduction to Scrooge than a return visit.
Play it if
You enjoy mastering a jump's height and timing, search for hidden passages, and will happily detour for gems. Hearing Scrooge voiced by the cartoon's Alan Young is a substantial bonus for you.
Skip it if
You stop playing when losing your lives wipes out a level's progress, or when dialogue repeatedly interrupts a straightforward platformer. Attractive cartoon artwork doesn't remove either obstacle.
Common questions
- Do I have to hold Down to use Scrooge's pogo jump?
- No. The 2013 remaster offers an easy-pogo option: hold the assigned button to keep bouncing, without the original Down-plus-button input. The cane bounce gives you extra height, defeats enemies and carries you across dangerous surfaces.
- What can I do with Scrooge's collected money?
- In the 2013 remaster, you can spend it on unlockable artwork and extras connected to the cartoon. You can also visit the money bin from the hub and swim through Scrooge's fortune.
- Wasn't DuckTales: Remastered removed from digital shops?
- It was delisted in 2019, then returned to Steam and console digital shops in 2020. Capcom gave no explanation for either move; the 2019 announcement said existing owners could continue playing and re-downloading their copies.
