Has it aged?Why ↓
Football Manager 2016 is a menu-driven football management simulation: take charge of Bury or Manchester United, sign players, set roles and formations, and watch matches in 3D. Building a squad is more satisfying than any single win, but deciphering why your instructions failed can feel like a second job.
The verdict
Play it for a long club career, not for convincing conversations. The 2015 release's improvements to computer-controlled managers make tactical adjustments and squad-building worth your attention across many seasons. That is a better foundation than another flashy mode. Press conferences remain repetitive, and the tactical screens make simple instructions unnecessarily fiddly. Choose Football Manager Touch if managing the team matters more to you than completing every administrative ritual.
Play it if
You scout replacements before your veterans decline, enjoy developing young players, and change a 4-2-3-1 to suit the opposition rather than demand that one formation win every match.
Skip it if
You need defeats to come with clear explanations of what to change. Prozone supplies data, not a diagnosis, and the consequences of press-conference answers can be difficult to understand.
Common questions
- What does Football Manager Touch leave out?
- Touch, formerly Classic, streamlines the management workload so seasons demand less time spent on press conferences and transfer negotiations. It is the better fit if those duties interrupt the football rather than enrich it.
- Will Prozone tell me why my tactics failed?
- It can help you spot where chances are conceded or which player keeps losing possession. It does not tell you whether your pressing or defensive line caused the defeat; you still have to interpret the evidence.
- What is Fantasy Draft?
- Introduced in the 2015 release, Fantasy Draft lets you assemble scratch teams and compete against friends. Treat it as a diversion from a club career rather than the reason to choose this edition.
- Is Create a Club different from using the editor?
- The 2015 release's Create a Club mode puts club customisation directly on the menu, but largely repackages what the included editor could already do. Its awkward interface makes it less of a shortcut than it sounds.
