Montague's Mount
2013
Has it aged?Why ↓
Montague's Mount is a first-person psychological adventure in which you wake as an amnesiac on an Irish island, on a beach littered with bodies. You explore and solve puzzles to piece together what happened: the setting is the attraction, rather than another protagonist who can't remember anything.
Montague's Mount is disturbing psychological thriller set in the bleakness of an abandoned Irish island, featuring exploration and challenging puzzle solving. This game is part one of a two part story, some questions are left unanswered and open to interpretation.

The verdict
Give it a chance for the Irish-island mystery and puzzle-solving, not for the familiar amnesia premise. Wandering through a place you don't understand is a compelling starting point; discovering who you are needs to earn its place alongside discovering where you are.
Play it if
You enjoy exploring unfamiliar places and working through puzzles while a story unfolds slowly, rather than rushing from one revelation to the next.
Skip it if
Anyone for whom a corpse-strewn beach and a story built around isolation are reasons to stop, rather than reasons to investigate.
Common questions
- Is Montague's Mount just a narrated walk?
- No: exploration includes puzzle-solving. The September 2013 demo coverage shows a puzzle occupying a substantial part of the opening, so expect more than listening while you wander.
- Is the island actually in Ireland?
- Yes. The setting is an Irish island, with the opening placing your amnesiac character on a rural beach littered with dead bodies.
- Does the Oculus Rift announcement establish support for later VR headsets?
- No. The September 2013 announcement promised Oculus Rift support at launch; it does not establish compatibility with later headsets.
