Has it aged?Why ↓

Adr1ft is a first-person space-survival game whose scenery does more work than its emergencies. As astronaut Alex Oshima, you drift through the shattered Han IV station above Earth, collecting oxygen and repairing systems to escape. Steering a damaged spacesuit through wreckage is absorbing; repeatedly stopping for another canister is not.

ADR1FT is the story of an astronaut who wakes up floating silently in space amongst the debris of destroyed space station…the only survivor of a catastrophic event, left with no memory, a critically damaged EVA suit leaking oxygen and no way home.

Skip it unless looking down at Earth matters more to you than having interesting repairs to perform. Han IV’s broken sections make weightless navigation worth experiencing, but rebooting four mainframe computers gives that exploration a disappointingly rigid purpose. Doors, oxygen pickups and computer repairs funnel through the same context-sensitive interaction. The view earns your attention; the work keeps interrupting it.

Play it if

You enjoy moving slowly through detailed environments, looking around rather than chasing objectives. You would happily spend time learning to coast through a wrecked station with small propulsion adjustments, even when the next task is another computer reboot.

Skip it if

You need survival games to keep forcing difficult decisions, or you want repairs that involve operating individual switches and tools. Oxygen is plentiful enough to make replenishment routine, and the machinery offers context-sensitive actions rather than hands-on repair.

Why does moving drain my oxygen in Adr1ft?
Oshima’s damaged suit leaks oxygen, and using its propulsion jets drains it faster. Make short directional adjustments, let inertia carry you, and replenish your supply from floating canisters.
Can I explore Han IV without collecting oxygen?
Completing the main game unlocks an infinite-oxygen mode. You must finish the oxygen-dependent escape first.
Does Adr1ft require an Oculus Rift?
No: the 2016 PC release includes both desktop and Oculus Rift play. VR makes the helmet and wreckage feel more immediate, but its rolling, drifting movement can cause substantial nausea; the view-restricting comfort button is not a guarantee against it.
