You play Enzo Kori-Odan, travelling between towns and fighting to reclaim Zama’s throne, while his wife Erine supplies healing and explosive magic. The verdict
Play it for Enzo and Erine: their struggle to understand themselves and support each other gives the spectacular fighting something worth defending. By 2020, patches had addressed the overlong boss fights, but long loading times and awkward writing and translation remained drawbacks. The colourful artwork and distinctive fantasy remain the draw; technical polish is not.
Play it if
You like learning several combat stances rather than sticking with one reliable attack, and you read town dialogue because unfamiliar kingdoms and their conflicts interest you. You want protagonists whose marriage matters as much as their powers.
Skip it if
You will stop playing if loading interrupts exploration and battles, or if enemies can repeatedly hit you without letting you respond. You need consistently fluent English dialogue to follow a long story.
Common questions
- Are Aurion’s battles turn-based?
- No: you jump, dash, block and attack in real time. Activating an Aurion gives Enzo special moves, and using those attacks charges an Ultimate Legacy attack.
- What does Erine do during a fight?
- You summon her to heal Enzo or cast powerful offensive magic. Most of Enzo’s attacks need AP, which he must find space to recharge; Erine’s spells do not require that charging routine.
- Can I freely explore beyond Zama?
- Aurion is not an open world, though some wandering becomes possible after the opening. Settlements contain separate screens, and you can often avoid visible enemies, but some fights block your route and story battles are compulsory.
