Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign
2014 · Arc System Works
Has it aged?Why ↓
Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN is a fighting game that makes 3D characters look drawn in 2D. You fight as characters such as Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, with elaborate moves sending the camera into new angles. The real attraction is how much personality a single pose can carry.
Kept you waitin'. GUILTY GEAR Xrd -SIGN- is finally here on Steam!

The verdict
Play SIGN for its animation: this is a fighting game whose visual craft deserves attention beyond the result of a match. Its 3D models need no apology for replacing sprites; deliberately stepped poses give the action its distinctive character. That art direction is the strongest reason to revisit it, though these sources cannot establish which Xrd edition to choose for competitive play.
Play it if
You choose fighters partly by how they look and move, and pay as much attention to a spectacular attack's animation as to whether it connects.
Skip it if
Anyone who does not want to spend their time fighting, or for whom actual hand-drawn sprites are essential: SIGN uses 3D models, however convincingly it disguises them.
Common questions
- Why does SIGN look like sprites if it uses 3D models?
- Its animation uses distinct poses rather than smoothly interpolating movement between them. Camera changes during elaborate moves reveal the 3D construction.
- Was SIGN announced for PC as well as PlayStation?
- Yes. PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions were announced in 2013, and a Steam release was announced in 2015 with a scheduled launch of 9 December.
- Who composed SIGN's music?
- Daisuke Ishiwatari, the Guilty Gear creator who also directed SIGN.
